Big Tiggers

We are the Pre-School Room for 3 & 4 year olds who spend more than their government funding hours at nursery, and are due to go to school at the end of the school year.

Recent changes include the splitting of Tiggers into two rooms, ‘Little’ and ‘Big’.  This is to enable those children who spend a lot of time at nursery to have smaller steps in transition and to spend less time in each room.

We provide opportunities for the children to develop skills in the following areas of the early year’s foundation stage curriculum:

Prime Areas:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language

Specific Areas:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the world
  • Expressive Arts and Design

The children learn these skills through a variety of child initiated activities and carefully planned adult led activities using ‘In the Moment Planning’. The children are regularly assessed and activities are tailored to suit their needs. As part of our EYFS framework, we work in partnership with parents in promoting British Values through play. We keep parents up to date on what their child has been up to through ClassDojo, a safe and secure app that allows both the nursery and child’s parents/carers to post photos, videos and messages to the child’s portfolio.

We ensure children understand their own feelings and behaviour and its consequences, distinguish right from wrong, and  learn to respect one another. Staff demonstrate sharing of views and encourage children to vote on different actions within the room i.e. themes for role play area, what activity they would like to do, etc.

Every June we produce Annual Child Reports for Parents, so that they can see how well their child is progressing in specific areas. Parents are invited to discuss their child’s progress and whether they have any concerns regarding their development, with the child’s Key Worker and SENDCo (if necessary).
