Mental Health
At Gooseberry Bush Day nursery we are mindful of Mental Health. We believe it is just as important as physical health.
We have a Mental Health First Aider (Jenni) and other staff trained in mental health awareness. We encourage any practitioners or parents who are experiencing ill mental health to contact our first aider.
Our staff can co-write a workplace action plan which will set out what triggers may be and what as an employer or colleague we can do the help in difficult situations.
We hold time-to-talk days where we encourage everyone to talk to each other about any difficulties they may be having and for colleagues to support each other.
Parents can speak to any member of staff about their struggles and we will endeavor to assist or sign post to other agencies.
Both Claire (Manager) and Jenni (Deputy Manager) have completed emotional first aid for children and are aware of the signs to look out for if children are struggling.
All practitioners talk to the children about their emotions, being sympathetic and not dismissing children’s emotions helps them to understand themselves and why they feel the way they do. For example: “You are sad because mummy/daddy had to go to work, they will be back later after lunch time”
If you are struggling with your mental health and would like some support, you are welcome to give us a call on 01209 713119 and speak to Jenni our Mental Health First Aider OR we do have various online resources for you to get guidance from.
