Online Safety / E-Safety

With the increasing influence the internet and social media platforms have on us as a community, the Gooseberry Bush believes that E-Safety is an important factor in both our care and for families to practice at home. E-Safety, otherwise known as Internet Safety or Online Safety, is the act of keeping children safe whilst online by implementing certain measures and limitations on their access to information.

The children at the Gooseberry Bush do not access the internet from devices whilst at nursery – rather our staff use Ipads to access videos and play music for them.

This way we can ensure the media played for them is appropriate for their age and so we can prevent them accidently coming across something inappropriate. We also have parental controls installed on all classroom devices for safeguarding and security purposes.

Video Games and their influence

Many children (yes, even nursery age children) have their own devices now, including their own ipads, phones and even computers in some cases.

With all these devices it is possible that your child may come across a video game (or footage from a video game) that is inappropriate for them. This could happen by seeing it on the TV when visiting a friends house, by watching a older sibling or parent play a video game on their PlayStation or Xbox, or by accident when using their own device.

With this in mind, the GBDN recommends families avoid playing or watching certain video games and TV shows when children are with them, as the content in said media is not appropriate for children.

We are keeping a running list of video games and TV shows to be mindful of, so with this in mind if you can think of something inappropriate that you cannot see on the list below, email Admin@gooseberrybush.org to let them know.
